Shopify continues to enhance its POS platform, with the latest summer updates introducing a range of improvements designed to make in-store operations more efficient, seamless and responsive.
From shared carts and faster payment processes to streamlined receipt management and improved connectivity visibility, the July updates focus on reducing friction throughout the in-store experience and giving merchants greater control over their POS environment.
Here’s a summary of the key updates introduced this summer, highlighting the latest changes and improvements made.
A Smoother Way To Sell
One of the standout updates is recent carts, which allows staff to build a cart on one device and access or complete it from another within the same location. Carts save automatically, making it easier for teams to hand over customers during busy periods or move seamlessly between devices.
Shopify has also made adding new POS devices much quicker. A new device can now be approved from an existing nearby device using Bluetooth or a QR code, reducing the friction of setting up replacement devices or opening additional registers.
Faster Checkout, Fewer Steps
The latest release also brings a series of smaller improvements designed to speed up everyday transactions. Cash payments now require fewer taps, split payments have been simplified, and email entry is quicker with suggested domains.
Receipt journeys have also been streamlined, helping staff avoid unnecessary screen turns and repeated questions during checkout.
For merchants, these might sound like small changes, but removing friction from hundreds of transactions can make a real difference to both staff and customer experience.
A Simpler Approach To Receipts
Shopify is also introducing a unified receipt editor covering sales, returns, exchanges, gifts and gift cards. Merchants can manage key content such as return policies, tax information and custom text from one place, making receipt management much easier across locations.
For merchants using heavily customised Liquid receipts, this is one to keep an eye on. Liquid receipt editing is being deprecated from 1 January 2027, so now is a good time to start planning any required changes.
More Visibility When Things Go Wrong
The updated Connectivity screen gives merchants a clearer view of their selling environment, bringing internet, Shopify service and hardware connectivity into one place.
Rather than discovering an issue when a transaction fails, staff can now see what's happening and get guidance on the next best action.
Shopify has also introduced more flexible cash rounding by market and new printing capabilities for POS extensions, giving merchants greater control over local requirements and custom in-store workflows.
What Does This Mean For Merchants?
The latest Shopify POS updates aren't about one major headline feature. Instead, they're about removing friction across the entire in-store experience.
From building a cart on the shop floor to taking payment, managing receipts and dealing with connectivity issues, Shopify is making POS more flexible and easier for teams to use. For merchants, it's a good reminder that POS shouldn't be a set-and-forget system. Keeping devices and configurations up to date can help ensure you're getting the most from the platform and delivering a smoother experience in-store.
