Google has rolled out Platform Properties in Search Console. For the first time, brands can track how their Instagram, TikTok, X and YouTube content performs inside Google Search, Discover and News, without owning the website that content sits on.
For a Shopify merchant, that's a meaningful gap closing. You've always been able to see how your storefront ranks. Now you can see how your social content gets found through Google too, and act on it with the same rigour.
Why This Matters If You've Already Invested In SEO
If you've been building organic visibility carefully, this is more search-driven equity to protect and grow, not a new discipline to learn. The same question applies: is this channel earning its place in Google Search, and can we prove it with numbers?
Here's the setup in four steps:
1. Set up profile tracking
Connect your official brand accounts for Instagram, TikTok, X and YouTube directly in Search Console, the same way you'd add a website property.
2. Read the search intelligence
Once connected, you get clicks, impressions and click-through rate for your social content, specifically as it appears in Google Search, Discover and Google News. This is data most brands have never had visibility on before.
3. Optimise for Social SEO
Use the queries people actually search to refine your titles, captions, descriptions and hashtags. If a TikTok caption keeps surfacing for a search term you didn't target, that's a signal, not a coincidence.
4. Build one cross-platform view
Compare how your main storefront performs in Search against how your social channels perform in Search. For the first time, that's a single, comparable picture rather than two disconnected data sets.
What This Means For Your Store
This isn't a reason to rebuild your content strategy overnight. It's a reason to check whether the content you're already producing for Instagram and TikTok is showing up in Search the way you'd want it to, and to start making decisions with data instead of guesswork.
It also fits a pattern we see across our own client base: search-driven revenue is worth protecting and growing deliberately, whichever surface it comes from. The mechanics are the same whether you're defending organic rankings through a platform migration or defending visibility for a piece of TikTok content that's ranking in Discover. Know what's working, know why, and don't leave it to chance.
Getting started this week:
- Connect your highest-follower platform account first, so you're working with a meaningful data set from day one.
- Give it two to three weeks before drawing conclusions. Search and Discover data needs a run-in period to become reliable.
- Cross-reference top-performing queries against your existing SEO keyword list. Overlaps are your highest-priority content to refine first.
