Turning A Quiet Month into Its Second Best of the Year with TikTok

For most gifting led ecommerce brands, the calendar does a lot of the heavy lifting. Christmas and Eid roll around, demand spikes, and revenue takes care of itself. The real challenge is what happens in between, when there's no seasonal tailwind to hide behind. That was the problem Venus Karma brought to us.

The Problem Hiding Behind The Peaks

Venus Karma came to us as a new client who wasn't happy with the growth they were seeing from their existing TikTok ads activity. On paper, the brand had everything going for it. It's naturally peak driven, with Christmas and Eid providing reliable spikes in demand. But that's exactly what made this such an interesting brief. Anyone can look good during a seasonal surge. The real test was proving we could drive consistent performance in the quieter months too, not just ride the wave when it arrived.

Digging into the account, we found the root of the issue. Creative velocity was low, hook variation was weak, and there was no persona framework feeding into ad development. In short, ads were being built and launched without any real clarity on who they were actually speaking to. TikTok Ads was the channel, but the strategy underneath it needed a rebuild.

Rebuilding The Foundations Before Touching The Spend

Rather than jumping straight into scaling budget, we started with the groundwork. We built out a full persona analysis, using it to inform both Meta and TikTok activity, and restructured the TikTok ad account architecture around these personas. This meant moving away from a single, undifferentiated approach and towards a properly segmented, funnel driven strategy, the biggest shift in how the account was run.

Alongside the restructure, we developed a creative and hook plan specifically designed to close the velocity and variation gap that had been holding performance back. We then introduced a funnel based structure: cold traffic built on TikTok's targeting capabilities (interests, keywords, and hashtags all informed by our audience analysis), paired with retargeting to nurture warm audiences through to conversion.

None of this was guesswork. The approach was guided by persona research, historical account performance data, and a review of the client's highest performing organic content, which we translated directly into Spark Ads. It all tied back to what Venus Karma actually wanted: consistent performance across the year and the ability to scale spend without losing efficiency. The persona and funnel approach was built with exactly that in mind.

Growth Without The Seasonal Safety Net

The results spoke for themselves. Revenue grew substantially through the brand's lower peak months, culminating in June delivering Venus Karma's second best sales month of the year to date, beaten only by Eid in March. And this wasn't growth achieved by playing it safe. Monthly ad spend was scaled by nearly a third over this period, with ROAS holding at a strong, efficient level rather than dropping off as budgets increased.

Performance built progressively throughout the restructure, but the clearest step change came between May and June, when revenue more than doubled month on month alongside a marked improvement in ROAS. That June result is the standout metric: a "quiet" month with no seasonal tailwind to lean on, delivering the second best sales performance of the year while spend was being scaled at the same time. It proved the funnel and persona approach could drive efficient growth on its own merit, not just when demand was already doing the work.

Put simply: outside of Eid, we delivered Venus Karma's strongest sales month of the year, scaling spend by nearly 30% while keeping ROAS strong and efficient.

What This Tells Us Going Forward

The takeaway here goes beyond one client's TikTok account. A persona led structure, paired with a proper cold versus warm funnel, consistently outperforms an undifferentiated, always cold approach. This matters most for brands with strong seasonal peaks, where the real opportunity lies in smoothing performance in the gaps between them, not just capitalising on the obvious spikes.

It's also a good example of how we like to work. We don't just run ads. We rebuild the strategic foundations, personas, funnel logic, and creative planning, before we scale spend. That's what makes the growth sustainable rather than a short term spike that fades as quickly as it appeared.

For Venus Karma, the plan now is to keep scaling spend within the funnel structure while closely monitoring ROAS, and to keep testing new hooks and creative off the back of top performing organic content. More broadly, this persona first, funnel based approach is a strong candidate for rolling out across other clients with similar peak and off peak demand patterns, and could well become the template for how we approach seasonal and gifting led ecommerce brands going forward.
