Shopify's Fall '26 Edition makes every store reachable by AI shopping agents and puts AI to work building stores. Here are the five biggest announcements, what they mean for B2B and DTC brands, and why product data, clear USPs, a distinctive brand and constant testing now matter more than ever.

The short version. Shopify's Fall '26 Edition makes every store reachable by AI shopping agents and puts AI to work building stores. That levels the playing field on technology, so the brands that win will be the ones with the best product data, the clearest USPs, the strongest brand and a habit of testing everything. Three priorities stand out:

  1. Get agent-ready: make sure AI agents can find, understand and trust your products and policies.
  2. Make your brand and USPs impossible to miss, on the page and in your data.
  3. Test and iterate continuously, and measure the return across every channel.

The hot take: AI now works on both sides of your store

Shopify's Fall '26 Edition, branded Exponential, landed on 28 October 2026 with more than 150 updates. One idea runs through all of it: AI now works on both sides of your store. Shoppers' AI agents can find, compare and buy your products without ever loading your homepage, and Shopify's own AI can plan and build changes to your store alongside you.

It's an exciting release for B2B and DTC merchants alike, and it shifts where the effort needs to go. Below are the five announcements we think matter most, what each means for you, and our take on how to make the most of them.

Timing matters too. With Black Friday weeks away, the job right now is getting your product data, policies and offers agent-ready and keeping your live store stable. The bigger changes, such as redesigning in Canvas or moving to the new theme architecture, are best trialled in the new year. Some features are also in early access or rolling out market by market, so check what's live in your admin before planning around any one of them.

The five biggest announcements, and what they mean for you

1. Checkout inside AI agents: every store is now agent-ready

This is the headline. Shop Pay checkout now works inside personal AI agents, starting with Meta's Muse, Claude Duet and Instinct. A new skill, shop.md, turns ChatGPT, Claude and other agents into a personal shopper that can search more than a billion products and check out with Shop Pay. Underneath, every Liquid and Hydrogen storefront now carries tools that let browser agents search products, update the cart and complete checkout once the buyer approves, using structured data rather than guesswork.

What it means for you: discovery is spreading beyond search engines and your own navigation. The order and the customer still come to you, but the first impression increasingly happens inside someone else's interface. Every Shopify store is agent-ready by default; the question now is whether agents choose yours.

2. You now control what AI says about your business

A new view in the admin shows whether your store is eligible for Shopify Catalog, the data source AI agents draw on, and links to fixes for anything in the way. Alongside it, the Knowledge base (under Sales channels > Agentic) lets you review and publish the facts agents get about your store, such as return windows, shipping destinations and gift services. Shopify drafts them from your storefront, and nothing reaches an agent until you sign it off.

What it means for you: product data is now part of your shop window. An agent recommends what it can read and trust, so missing materials, sizes, specs, lead times or delivery details mean you simply don't get picked. For B2B merchants with deep technical catalogues, this is a real chance to win on clarity.

3. Sidekick, Canvas and a new theme architecture: AI that builds

Sidekick has been rebuilt. It can run calculations, write code, research your market and remember what you teach it, with you approving every change. Canvas, now in early access, puts your whole store on one workspace to edit with Sidekick, from small tweaks to full redesigns. Under the bonnet, a new theme architecture makes stores easier for both developers and AI agents to read and change.

What it means for you: making changes is about to get much faster. That's brilliant for momentum, but when everyone has the same tools, stores risk starting to look the same. More on that below.

4. Rollouts and testing: launch, measure, iterate

Rollouts let you plan, schedule and test changes to your store as proper launches, from theme updates to seasonal sales, rather than a late night of manual switches. With native testing alongside, you can see what actually moved the needle before committing.

What it means for you: constant iteration becomes part of how the platform works. Every launch, sale and new feature can be measured and refined, not shipped and forgotten.

Rollouts is a great entry point. For brands new to experimentation, it's the easiest place to start: it's built into Shopify and gets your team into the habit of launching, measuring and learning. For now, its testing works largely at theme level, and Shopify is building on it with each Edition.

When you're ready to go further, our experimentation tech partners take testing well beyond what's native today. For everyday testing, they let teams build and launch tests quickly across any page, target specific audiences by device or location, and test whole journeys rather than single theme changes. For more in-depth work, they open up the commercial levers, testing prices, shipping thresholds, discounts and offers, and measuring the impact on margin and order value, not just conversion rate.

5. The network works harder for you: Protect, payments and POS

Shopify Protect brings risk and disputes tools into the admin to stop fraud at checkout and fight chargebacks automatically, informed by signals from millions of businesses. Shopify Payments adds seven local payment methods, including Alipay, WeChat Pay and Scalapay, and Shopify POS can now recognise far more in-store shoppers through the Shopify Payments network. Shopify says a known in-store customer has over 60% higher lifetime value than an unknown one.

What it means for you: fewer lost orders and chargebacks, smoother international selling, and a joined-up view of customers online and in store. It's the less flashy end of the release, but it goes straight to margin.

Our take: when everyone has the same tools, your brand is the difference
The Partner Opportunity: Retail is the next growth line for Shopify and your business

The technology in Fall '26 is genuinely exciting. Building a page, a section or a full redesign is getting faster and cheaper by the month. But there's a flip side. When everyone has the same tools, stores start to look more and more like one another, and you can already spot the sites that have clearly been built with AI.

That's why there's never been a more important time to invest in what makes you different. The little things now add up to the big thing: whether a customer, or their AI agent, chooses you.

Agentic readiness is the new baseline. Clean, complete product data, an accurate Knowledge base and Catalog eligibility are what get you into the conversation in the first place. This is the groundwork every merchant should be doing now.

Make your USPs impossible to miss. Customers shouldn't have to go looking for why they should buy from you. Speed of delivery, bundles, subscriptions and savings, clear pricing (including trade pricing for B2B), returns and guarantees should be front and centre, on the page and in the data agents read.

Invest in trust and product discovery. Reviews, delivery promises, clear policies and search and filtering that genuinely help people find the right product all build the confidence to buy, especially for shoppers who are new to your brand.

Give B2B buyers the same ease as consumers. Trade buyers now expect a consumer-grade experience at work. Clear account pricing, fast reordering, accurate stock and lead times, and specs and documents that are easy to find all reduce friction, and the same structured data that helps AI agents helps buyers and sales teams find the right product first time.

Look like your brand, not everyone else's. Superb product photography, a distinctive design system and a tone of voice that's unmistakably yours are what stop a store blending into the crowd. AI can speed up the build; it shouldn't decide what your brand looks like.

Get the UX bang on point. When the tools are the same, the experience is the differentiator. Every friction point in navigation, product pages, basket and checkout costs more when the alternative is one prompt away.

Never stop iterating. With Rollouts and native testing built into the platform, the brands that win will be the ones that keep testing, learning and refining, season after season.

New features only create value when they're joined up with the rest of your funnel. That's where we focus: taking what Shopify ships and making it work across marketing, conversion, build and support.

One data effort, every channel. The product data that gets you recommended by AI agents also feeds your Google Shopping listings, social catalogues, on-site search and email personalisation. Fix it once and organic, paid and email all perform better, which makes it one of the highest-return investments a store can make right now.

Measurement that keeps up. When a sale starts in an AI chat, or a shopper buys from several brands in one checkout, the customer journey gets harder to see. We connect data across channels so you can see what's really driving revenue, and put budget behind what works rather than what's easiest to track.

Optimisation that never stops. With Rollouts and native testing built in, we plan seasonal launches, run experiments and roll back cleanly, all inside Shopify, and prove every change with real customers.

Feature releases, delivered with care. Canvas, Sidekick and the new theme architecture are powerful, but they need guardrails. We trial new capabilities away from your live store, protect your design system, brand and accessibility standards, and only go live when it's right.

Support that keeps you ticking over. Shopify is retiring some older technology over the coming months, including storefront script tags and older app access methods. We audit your theme and app stack so nothing breaks quietly.

Agentic readiness, step by step. Checking Catalog eligibility, publishing an accurate Knowledge base, filling product data gaps and getting Shop Pay switched on are practical first moves. Our agentic commerce readiness checklist walks through each one.

Ready to make Fall '26 work for you?

Fall '26 opens up more ways than ever for customers to find and buy from you. The merchants who get their data agent-ready, make their brand and USPs impossible to miss, and keep iterating will be the ones who stand out.

Every update in this release comes back to the same question: what return will it bring your business? That's how we approach it. We look at the whole funnel, from the ads and emails that bring customers in to the pages, offers and checkout that convert them. We find the gaps that are costing you revenue, and fix them in order of impact. You can see the results that approach has delivered in our case studies.
